This Cookie Policy explains what cookies yap. ("we," "us," or "our") uses, and why. For more on how we handle your personal information generally, see our Privacy Policy.
Authentication session cookies (essential).When you sign in, our authentication provider, Supabase, sets a session cookie in your browser. This cookie is what keeps you signed in as you navigate the site — without it, you'd be asked to log in on every page. It doesn't track your activity across other websites and isn't used for advertising.
Google Sign-In (if you use it).If you choose to sign in with Google instead of an email and password, Google's own sign-in flow may set cookies on Google's domain as part of that process, before you're redirected back to us. Those cookies are controlled by Google, not us — see Google's own privacy and cookie policies for details.
Students on the free plan can choose to watch a short ad in exchange for extra AI tokens or image uploads. This is entirely optional and opt-in— no ad ever plays automatically, in the background, or without you specifically tapping a "watch an ad" button first. The free plan remains fully usable if you never watch a single one.
When you choose to watch a rewarded ad, it's served through a child-directed/COPPA-compliant advertising provider. That provider may set its own cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure that individual ad. Those cookies are notused for behavioral advertising or cross-site ad targeting — they are not used to build a profile of you or to follow you across other websites or apps. We have not yet finalized which ad provider we'll use; once we do, we'll name them here and link to their own privacy and cookie disclosures.
Outside of the opt-in rewarded ads described above, yap. doesn't use advertising or ad-targeting cookies of any kind. As of this writing, the site also doesn't use any analytics, tracking, or marketing cookies or scripts (no Google Analytics, no ad pixels, no third-party trackers). If that changes in the future, we'll update this policy before we turn anything like that on.
Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. The authentication session cookie is required to stay signed in. The rewarded-ad cookies described above are only ever set at the moment you choose to watch an ad — if you never opt in, they're never set in the first place, so the simplest way to opt out is to just not watch one.
